The Media Room
Sustainable living within the residential sector is slowly taking center stage. Beyond the monetary advantages of living more sustainably there are also long-term benefits to our health. We present a media room with both a low carbon footprint and a high level of luxury…making everyone green with envy!
Most often an SGI project begins with an array of fabrics but in the CharityWorks GreenHouse the selection of the rug was our catalyst. The media room will be anchored with a vegetable-dyed wool rug from Odegard, Inc. In addition to its natural properties the context of its’ making is unique. The rug is the work of three individual weavers using rejected dye lots from other rugs—thus using wool that would otherwise be discarded! The room will exemplify the latest in LED technology. Light emitting diodes (LEDs) consume less energy than alternative light sources. The media room will fully exploit the artistic potential of LEDs in three applications: ambient lighting, task lighting, and accent lighting. LED strips play up light and shadow, adding depth to layered walls. Recessed adjustable accent lighting and track lighting will illuminate featured artwork. Recessed downlights exhibit exceptional performance both in the cost and color quality. In addition, decorative paneling constructed of formaldehyde-free hardwood plywood secures an elegant and contemporary look while contributing to air-friendly indoor environment.
Our design for the media room embodies the design style of Susan Gulick Interiors—a clean look that is uncluttered and classically fresh! Susan Gulick has been a design presence in the Washington, D.C. metro area for over 20 years. She was recently awarded 2008 Designer of Distinction by the ASID Washington Metro Chapter.
